Chair report

To all:

I regret not attending today. I’ve had this time off scheduled for several months to spend this time with my wife and youngest.

This is a combined chair/web report.

The results for the area inventory were compiled and sent out via email. One of the issues I followed up on was the creation of a mail list to promote unity and better communication in the area. There has been a very good response so far.

Another issue was making sure new GSR’s and trusted servants felt welcome in the area and had the opportunity to go over guidelines, ask questions, etc. from the area chair or alt-chair. So along these lines I did spend some time with our new PI chair.

The area guidelines can be printed or read from the website now. The minutes are on there too.

Today is the budget setting day. I have sent a worksheet to help facilitate this process. We are one year into this now and hopefully have some historical data to guide us.

The web site budget has been on a bi-annual basis. The cost is $150/yr and is paid through December 2005. Next year the web site will ask for approx. $300 for two years.

In Unity and Fellowship,

John T.

Hello ASC Members and Area Groups,

The WSP panel is going well.  So far there has been 3 meeting and we are scheduled with the WSP official to go in the 2nd Saturday of each month weather permitting.  The panel leaves Rock Springs 10 a.m., the first meeting is with either the Maximum Security Unit or the Medium Security Unit.  These meeting run from 12:30 till 3:30, then we go down to the ITU for a meeting from 3:45 to 4:45.  Those traveling from the Rock Springs area are usually home before 7:00 p.m.

Any male addicts willing to serve may fill out the required forms for H&I Subcommittee and the Wyoming Department of Corrections approval.

I have submitted a Budget for the upcoming year including the possibility of two additional meeting in our area.  One of the meetings will be held at the Sweetwater County Detention Facility located between Rock Springs and Green River.  This meeting will be open for both male and female participation so I encourage women from the Rock Springs/Green River area to complete an area H & I form.  I have also included the possibility of carrying the NA message to another facility located in the State of Utah, namely the Daggett County Jail.  Although addiction does not recognize State lines I feel our Area and Region needs to recognize that this Daggett County facility does reside in the Utah Region of NA and I believe the Upper Uinta Area of NA.  I have spoken with a corrections official in Manila and told them I would see what could be done about carrying the message to them, this I am still working on.

The following statement is a comment on a letter sent by Tony S. the addict who began our H & I sub-committee years ago.  Thanks Tony for your past service and commitment to NA as a whole and for your letter to the area concerning this important worldwide subject;

 Narcotics Anonymous has guidelines concerning the process of carrying the message into correctional facilities and though I am not versed as well as I perhaps should be on these guidelines one thing is for certain, these guidelines are for the good of all of Narcotics Anonymous worldwide.  When in the line of doing service through any of NA services, we as addicts need to carry the NA message of recovery through UNITY of purpose. In our 5th Tradition it states the a groups primary purpose is to carry the message to the addict who still suffers and our fellowship has preceding traditions that ask for Unity of purpose, work together for the still suffering, that we are that addict, and that we work together for the protection of our fellowship as a whole.  I have written this last paragraph to encourage our area groups and their individual members to help carry the message through participation in Area Sub-committee’s.

I also request at this time $100.00 for H&I travel.  This would be $60.00 for the 3 meeting that have already taken place at the WSP and for the next 2 meeting that will take place between now and our next ASC meeting.
